Another night without Ambien.  Which invariably means a late morning.  Tonight will be a "medically assisted" rest.

Pool Party...
7pm - "Late"
Bottle service required

Well, that explains why they put a temporary dance floor on/in(?) the pool...

Yes, of course, I will take pictures of any silliness I observe.
I expect gravity to reign supreme.

UPDATE at 9:00PM.  I met two couples (An Aussie, a Scotsman, an Englishwoman, and a Russian) at sunset.  There were...'libatious.'  I couldn't understand much they said between hooch and accents.

I glanced down at the dance floor a moment ago - the four were on it.  Then off.  Then the Aussie and the Englishwoman showed that "white people can't dance" applies worldwide.  I'd say it was like a high school dance...but it's just the 4 of them and they are actually standing together.

UPDATE at 9:30PM.  Oh, this is epically bad - Covington Latin School Dances in 1980 bad.  The DJs are not on the stage; the food service team seems to be cover food and leaving the carving station.

The funny part is that tomorrow is the 2025 Miri Marathon.  Who binge drinks until "late" the night before a marathon?  What type of runner sends their partner off to binge drink - and return to be late, surely to snore drunkenly - the night before a marathon?  I guess marathons are really big spectator sports here.

UPDATE: The marathon is run Saturday Night around midnight.  To avoid the daytime heat.

Returned to the Tin Shed for breakfast.  Just as good as yesterday without the crowd or the infernal (cloudy today with an expectation of storms).  Loaded Kolo Mee and a tea....RM5.  WOW!  $1.25  And, I'm telling you, it's really good.  She put more meat and more spring onions on it today.  I think the spring onions are a sign she likes me.  They're super important ingredients here.  Aldrich, the young food vlogger in Sing, complains relentlessly when they are lacking.  The were not today.  And there were shallots aplenty too.

The day yesterday was not well constructed.  The later start was part of it.  But it was a day I was generally not looking forward to.

I started my taxes.  Painful.
I started looking for flights back. Painful.

And, I generally did not hydrate well.  Which came back to haunt me on my walk.  The humidity drops in the daylight here.  Mid 60s with sun; 80s without.  Relative humidty- so there may not be much more water in the air, but the air is closer to saturated.  Closer to saturated means it cannot absorb as much evaporating sweat.

I was smart enough to drink a few cans of fluid along the way (lower sugar Lychee juice and some lemon tea.)  But that was just not enough without having been drinking my usual gallon during the day.

Today will be a very relaxed day as a result.  The Accidental Yeti has been kindly filled with icewater by the lounge crew.  At least 3 x 36oz. is the plan.

If I'm smart, I'll do laundry.  If I'm lucky I'll find a barber.  My hair is at least 1/4" longer than when cut.  That's about 400C warmer than when it's closely shorn to 1/8th"

UPDATE: done.  Shorn is the correct word.  And, laundry done too.

So, that walk last night...

The hotel is the viewpoint.  I walked up the streets nearest the river.  They are not on the shore.  That's docks and stilt houses.  Until the stretch with the red line.  That whole area is cemeteries.  Muslim, Buddhist, and I assume more.  The tall structure in its midst is the temple with the big red bowl.  The green arrows are the badly photo'd ships.  And just short of where I turned back.  That's 1.25 to 1.5 miles away.

Malaysian drivers are worse at night.  And, like in America, one must take extra, proactive, precautionary steps when dealing with the pickups.  They behave badly.

In the middle of the cemetery was an old man repainting the chipped stone engravings where they've fallen prey to the elements.  A tiny flashlight in his right hand, a fine tipped brush in his left.  Small tin of red paint.  Doing that classic catcher's pose in front of the headstone - down on his haunches.  Quietly and delicately working.  His beam was narrow.  For a while I simply stood beside him and held my phone's flashlight to help.  I honestly don't think he knew I was there.  When my haunches ached and my phone was warm, I quietly said Selamat Malam (Safe/Good night) and slipped away.  He was not startled.  He simply nodded.

Some interactions are just profoundly stilling.
