Firefly Flight Fun
I've mentioned the MH FlyPass before. It continues to stun and amaze.
Booked another flight KCH-MYY for yesterday. And, saw the same preface to the last hassle. So, I got to the airport early. And, went through the same hassle as before.
Same outcome. No added fee, no decrementing the count of flights I have 'in pocket' on the program. Every person I have involved in this has been stumped by it. Everyone of them has been told about the 2 free flights to date (RM24 airport fees only; and I always get an e-receipt for that when I book.) Everyone has been asked to charge me the 'flight unit.' Not one knew how. I'll keep bringing it up. But if they do not fix it, I'm not pushing it.
The Firefly system absolutely cannot talk to the MH system out here. Maybe in KL. Not here. And, as much as I try to do right by all at all times, all I'm doing is frustrating the locals. No more. I'll ask. But if they cannot, they cannot. When I hit KLIA with a layover I'll seek out someone who can fix it. Until then, if it takes 2 hours to check in, I'm flying only what they charged me at booking. Speak once, then "not my problem" applies.
I do actually love Firefly. They are nice, and of course the women are sexy (Asian airlines' hiring practice misogyny is beyond my ability to fix. Billing problems aren't cultural; hiring for looks is. And, it's beyond the airlines.) As noted before, MH does hire male flight attendants to. Rare on Cathay (and probably Sing, but I have not flown them in 15 years at least), not on JAL, Asiana (now part of Korean) or AirAsia. I'm not here to change the culture. Just accept as much of it as I can. So, I will keep my lasciviousness firmly in proper check.
In a 65 minute scheduled flight they manage to serve snacks to everyone. Flyers with perks (MH Flypass users included) even get a sandwich. Water, peanuts, and cookies for all. Egg salad and tuna salad for the elites who are addressed by name when the goodies are delivered. When you feel the flight hit its apex (it never levels off) you better be finishing up. It's just a big orange rainbow between airports.
I cannot imagine how (or when) AirBorneo will get in the air. Sarawak owns them but no plans have been announced that I know of. That will be the other local MH subsidiary MAS Wings.
To my dear sister-in-law...I have no idea if there are actual fireflies here. Heat lightning has been confirmed. Native Californians, sheesh...
