Apartment Hunting

Could not be bothered to go chasing after anything in Kuching.  I knew it was going to be Miri after landing in KCH last time.  Too big.  Way too noisy.  Motorcycle food delivery dudes don't seem to like mufflers there.

The Miri waterfront is quiet.  City center, less so.  The waterfront is on the water; the city center, not so.  There is one tall condo/apartment building adjacent to the Pullman, The Wharf.  Same builder/owner.  Not as new or as nice as a property would have been in Kuching.  But..."Location, Location, Location."

I wanted a high floor on the NW corner.  I'll be on the 10th floor, North side, western half.  Not the view from the hotel.  (Actually a view of the hotel.  I very deliberately gave up a better view of the South to have shade in the summer.) But still absolutely good enough.

The middle (left in this pic) Tower, right side.
Good enough for Year 1.

3 beds, furnished.  2 Baths.  Washer (dryers are uncommon.  Clotheslines are standard as the air is clean.) RM3800/mo ... About $900/mo.  I currently pay $2350.  My plan to live on what I pay in California rent is going to be easily accomplished.  Especially since eating out is far cheaper than cooking at home.

I'll put down a deposit tomorrow.  And, take possession May 15th.  Well, begin paying for it that day.  I hope to be here then, but my pace is not always predictable.

I may end up looking for an e-bike or simple e-vespa as I do want to be able to roam a little bit.  There is a marina a bit south of the city and a boat club a bit north of the city.  I see water time in my future.  Wheels would be useful for those trips.

Driving here is not for me.  There cray-cray and incredibly unpredictable.  I'll start with Grab (ASEAN's Uber but actually good) and see what needs are real.

I spent about RM29 on Grab running to/from the bank today.  That's north of town.

Step. By. Step.  It's how I got here, it's how I'll move forward.  Steps.  Not leaps.  Not bounds.

Enough for now.  I need some new sneakers.  Time to go buy them.  And,
