The Last Few Days

...As best I recall - I tend to forget shit when anxious.

So, let's start back in Miri.   Well, leaving Miri.

The flight was crowded and cramped but easy.  I made a rookie mistake when choosing a seat.  I forgot most cheap fares in Asia do not allow one to pre-select.  So, I thought the flight would be empty.  NOPE.  It has been years since I had been seated aft of the wings.  Simple physics applied.  It was bumpy as hell sitting in the very back of the plane.   Watching the stability of people's (backs of ) heads increase as the seats went forward was funny.  COG, COE...it makes sense.

If you did not see the comment I left on another post...It was hilarious when the party in the rear started meowing when we landed in Kuching.  "KUCING" is the Malay word for "Cat."  Once I figured it out, I LOL'd.

The Pullman here is under serious renovation.  I'll dedicate a post (trying not to rant tonight) to that later.  An overpriced disaster of a choice.

Wandered, in the rain, and found a non-Halal ("Serve Pork") place that had an amazing open grill.  Found it by the smell.  WOW.  Grilled Pork Belly Sambal Geprek.  Heavenly.  Really good lemon iced tea.  Tried a "Watermelon Gin."  Really awful.  Not a moment of watermelon.  It was bubblegum scented.  Evoke is not a  gin brand I'll return to.  Especially since they have Monkey 47 and others ($10/measured shot.)  All in RM75 and I was very happy.

Slept in on Friday.  Grabbed some Kolo Mee for breakfast.  The meeting of minor dismay.  The meal of shame (explained below the last photo.)  The parade of misery.  The Snickers dinner.  All followed.  Hopefully to be relegated to this blog.

I wanted eggs on toast (actually a common Malaysia b'fast) but could not find them on Carpenter St.  (Yet to revisit Pandungan St.  I will get them there tomorrow.)

Laksa, I'm gonna start Rick Rolling that word.  It's never gonna let me down.  Wow.  And, this one had de-boned chickens' feet.  (Insert Far Side "Boneless Chicken Ranch" cartoon here in your mind.  You know the one!)  Without the claws and bones it's like tendon in Pho.  Texture.  And, I liked it.

Watched F1 Sprint from Shanghai.  And napped.

There's an English you tube couple I once followed who has opened a little place here.  I had a Jacket Potato for dinner.  Cheese, corn, spicy chickpeas, and pickled daikon (all of my choosing), a rather heterodox amalgamation.  But it's really good too.  Daikon is Mooli here, that's good to know.  G&A, thank you!

Meet a nice couple from the States as well.  D&J thanks for the great conversation.

All 4 of you, my apologies.  I am a talker at times.

Nonplussed pusses abound here.

There was some sexual tension in the air.
I left before the show started.  Not my kink.

Ominous, but a dry day in the end.

I ate lunch here before the parade.
In very poor form.
Nusantara is the new capital of Indonesia.  It's under construction in southern Borneo.

A Warong (or Warung) is an Indonesian family restaurant.
The place is undeniably Indonesian.  And, likely strictly halal.

The staff was fasting.  I ate in front of them.  Poor form, very poor form.
I apologized by Goog Translate and they were gracious.  I'm trying to be better than that.

When I saw the burnt out lights bulbs later last night (Snickers run), I felt worse.
Surely an unfortunate coincidence.

I will return some evening after dusk.  The food was amazing.
