Kolo Mee & Breakfast.
Back to the Kolo Bun place.
At 0630. The breeze was delightful and the sun already blazing. I looked for a table. The only small ones were downwind of the kitchen. HOT. Auntie caught me in her eye and said "You said 0800!" I explained I'm still adjusting to the 15 hour time shift.
And, I am. This trip feels physically better than Kuantan's start (that heat was absurd with 115F feels likes temps) and easier on my body than Kuching was (it was hot then too!) It's hot here. The sun at the equator...up fast, full strength all day everyday, down just as quickly, no need for Summer or Daylight Saving Times. The length of daylight and its clock alignment still mess with the sense of time.
I told Auntie I wanted a cool table and was going to walk a bit. 10 minutes later, all was good. Kolo Mee makes me happy.
This was based on a roast pork (think "lechon" in the Spanish colonial world.) And very good. 2 lemonades washed it all down. RM 7 for the drinks, RM 4.50 for the food. RM 11.50
I'm getting an exchange rate of 4.35 or better through my account at HSBC which lets me hold Dollars (USD, CAD, AUS, NZ, SING, HKG), Yen, Pounds, Rand and more simultaneously! That makes life much easier.
Breakfast was USD $2.75. Worth much much more!
Sorry neither pics nore receipts. But it happened.
Wandering back to the hotel I passed the local office of The Borneo Post. I have not seen it for sale anywhere. And, I know it's a good read. They could not tell me where to buy it; but kindly gave me todays (English) edition.
Kopitiam time. Teh tarik is yummy. Reading the paper and sipping my Teh is one of my daily goals (really!) here. It feels so right. I like being an Old Dude here.
I did send somebody a few headlines I liked:
Well, in my world, I smile as it means there was less space in the paper for International Politics.
YMMV.
More later. I've got to get setup to watch hockey and F1.
