Back to Old Man Street...and the Newspaper

Woke up feeling good.  And needing laksa.  So I went to my favorite Auntie's mamak.  I had intended to go to my preferred laksa joint (Cafe 63).  I made sure to get the "no prawns" straight.  Alas I did not consider fish or fish balls.  Some white vaguely protein/gelatinous (yeah, best I could do.) white slices of a neurotically preferred texture.

But the soup.  Oh, it hit.  I could taste the Assam (sour from the tamarind), the Lemak (the creamy, amazing unctuousness of the coconut milk) and the bones of the fish stock (that's just flavor, not texture.) Add the local lime (which has a tangerine fragrance in it's arsenal), the laksa leaves (aka Vietnamese Corriendar).  So good I didn't mind paying a 50% premium for the fish I didn't eat (but did order.)  RM12.  Half the price of the Bun Cha yesterday.  And I will happily pay those prices!  And eat the foods joyously!!!

The Borneo Post cost RM1.40 in Kuching!  Big city prices.  It's RM1.20 here.  Headed to Old Man Street, bought it with coins from Uncle.  He knows I hate the coins.  But, I try to minimize them for him as he has done so for me.  1x50s, 3x20s, 1x10s and we were both content.

Front page has an issue about a what was once popularly called a "code red" by Hollywood.  But it was real.  22 enlistee killed by his mates in the Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD).  Sad.

But confusing was seeing reference to The Royal Malaysian Army (TDM) and the Royal Malaysia Air Force (RMAF).  At least on has a sensible acronym.  The combination of British military organizations and Malaysian words...

FYI: Malay is an ethnic designation and the majority of the Malasyian population by culture.  Malaysian is a national identity.  I assume the Malay Regiment would be an example akin to the creation of the English Gurkhas (serious bad asses!) here in Malaysia.

The rest of the paper was the usual salve.  Pics from the rest of the mornining.

Auntie's laksa

Just some chicks hanging out around the bend.

This series will never grow old to me.
It probably already is to you!

There's something that speaks to me in it.
Crazy artist Jim may break free yet.
The transient element here will be part of whatever grows.
But there will be other things involved too.  (Math/Physics driven)
Maybe.
