Tentative plans for the move
Mar. 10 - 12 Fly to MYY
(SFO-NRT-CGK-KUL-MYY is a long day.)
37.5K miles in coach. 70K in biz. WTF do you think? Biz. Damn, do you think me stupid?
I only need a MY-California-MY r/t after that - my last 90k should cover it*.
Mar 13 thru +/- 7 days. Relax and unwind from travel. Get to know Miri.
Then, +/- 5 days in Kuching. Paperwork, eating, relaxing, see a few apartments.
Then, maybe, +/- 5 days in Santubong. Reflecting, choosing a town.
Then, +/- 7 to 14 days in the selected town. Hopefully signing a lease and taking possession of a place.
Then, back to the Central Coast.
Close up, move out, be back on Borneo by my 60th birthday in June.
A long weekend planned in Penang in July...a leftover ticket from September.
The Borneo Int'l. Kite Festival in October is penciled in. I wanted to see it this year but did not make it. Hey, I've had a lifelong love of kites. If that doesn't (1) make a prima facie case for neurodivergence and (2) scream that Asia may be right for me, then you're not getting my intended vibe, kids. Bintulu...an outside shot at a future home town.
Beyond that?
- Learns some Bahasa.
- Walk daily.
- Think about some transportation (maybe...fear of injury remains) an e-bike or e-vespa
- Read the rest of the Travis McGee books. (Finished Amber most recently, I think.)
- Consider how to get back on the water, sailing, again. Foiling with a handheld kite? This is a strong element driving me towards Miri.
- Whatever else I decide. Writing?
- Read some Basho.
- Eat happily. With copious amounts of pork.
That's enough obligations for 2025. It already feels excessively ambitious. I'll pare it back.
* Suddenly thinking of a great song called "I Spent My Last $10 .... on Birth Control and Beer" from a CD titled "Women Like Us: Lesbian Favorites" What a great disc - Dar Williams (I will Not Be Afraid of Women), Sandra Bernhardt (50 Ways to Leave Your Lover), Tanita Tikaram (Twist in My Sobriety) and so many more. 1997ish? The soundtrack of my life is pretty wonderful and varied... :)
Spending your last 90,000 miles is decidedly not one's last $10. And, I neither need birth control (my vasectomy was a damn smart decision, you're welcome World) nor like beer (Gin, Bourbon, or Rum, please). I have first world problems; I am fleeing them by leaving the first world. That is a hell of a privilege. I am immensely grateful for my good luck and a few smart decisions <MAX OUT YOUR 401(K) folks!!!>
I'm proud as all hell of most those decisions. Not too many were malicious or at the expense of others. Well, not too horribly many.
