sigh....

 AC37... USA out.

For a number of reasons, including the city of Leeds, we're pulling for Team GB.

And, in the actua finals, anybody but the Kiwis.  If they win, the AC dies.

Oh, if any of you peaked at the F1 calendar and the map....I'm not very far from Singapore at all.  Probably a 60 minute flight.  No, I am either crazy nor rich enough to attend.  TV is fine.  I will see an F1 race eventually, I hope.  (have been to Indy 500 a few times, NASCAR once.)*  But not in Singapore.  And not this year.

* Honestly, auto racing live is far less fun (unless you are driving) than watching it on TV.    Like horse racing.  (Yep, went to the Derby once in the late '80s.  Lost the mint julep glass shortly thereafter.  The year '49er was the favorite.)**  Yes, I have a (small) amount of experience driving fast cars on a race track.  It's amazingly fun and cool.

You should do it if you ever get the chance: NASCAR 'experiences' or 24 Hours of LeMons are both fun and enlightening.  If you're serious - look up LeMons.  It ain't cheap but it's worth the experience.

I prefer watching open wheel races.

The one place that is really fun to watch in person is at your local dirt track.  Especially if you live where they run Sprint Cars -- with or without wings; full size, juniors, midgets, whatever.**  If you can see "Winged 410s" you will be having the most fun. Worth seeking out, I promise.

** Hello to my friend (since 8/86!!!)  in Boston.  What a day and trip it was.  The statute of limitations expired years ago if you wish to share my history of foolishness! I know we did the Derby together and I think I dragged you to Indy for qualifying or a race, it was a looooong time ago.

*** Sprint Cars - cf USAC, World of Outlaws, The Chili Bowl, Knoxville Nationals. These are NOT the cars that ran in the former NASCAR "Sprint Cup."  That was sponsored by Sprint before they were bought by T-Mobile.

These are absurd cars with higher Power/Weight ratios than F1 (before ground effects, not sure if after.)  No transmission, you are in gear or not; chain or belt (not sure which) driven; staggered and absurd tire; alcohol fueled so really stinky, eye burning and loud.  A good night out in the summer.  Go!  Seek them out.

Not a fan of local "4 bangers" and stock, modifieds, etc., but I will sit through them to watch the Sprint Cars.  Any time, in-spite of the autistic sensory overload involved.  Oh, yeah, they are really stinky, eye burning and loud.  I wonder if they're racing in Hanford in October?!?!?!!!!!  Hmmmm.
