It's hot and...

 ...Very garlicky.

That little dish of red sauce might define "piquant."

It's very sharp with both heat and garlic.  Not a sambal.  A Chinese condiment of unknown, to me, name.  And beside it is wonderful pork.  With a flair for names, this dish is "Pork Rice."  Hard to decipher, eh.  The Han Chinese can be hard to decode with such culinary inscrutability.

Not the best I have ever had, but mighty damn good.  A roasted and charred edge (on the bottom) with an wonderful unctuous thread of fat through the middle.  Soy drizzled atop it seeps down to the rice.

At the time I texted to somebody that I might be weeping over it.  That was just sweat.  Still, a wonderful savory breakfast.  Cucumbers have always been a favorite and here they have only become more so.  Crisp, cool, wonderful contrast.  RM10.  Teh was RM1.50

Being fat, I was still hungry.  Something sweet was needed.

No caption, I'm speechless about this one.  Roti canai Pisang.  Banana roti.  How I love it.  The white dish is evaporated milk.  Treacle sweet, just white.  The black dish is an oily hot curry/chili sauce.  The two combined on a piping hot, gooey, chewy wonder was amazing.  The watermelon slushie was devine.  RM11.50 combined.

Stunning and wonderful.  So simple.  So complex.  All of it.

Sticking with the Hainan Island origins we move to the flagship food of Singapore.  (Yeah, that confuses me too.  But it's true.)  Chicken Rice.

You're not in Singapore anymore, Toto.

This is the Malay take on that classic.  Roasted instead of poached.  Sweet cabbage instead of cukes.  Sweet soy.  Red sauce without the mule kick of garlic.  And, just as amazing as Tien Tien Chicken Rice at the Maxwell Street Hawker Center in Singapore.   Oh, man.

RM18.50  for that, 2 wonderful (saltier than sweet) asam drinks, and a bottle of water to walk home with.

Dehydrated and satiated all at once.  (Slaking my thirst is an ongoing effort.) Worth the brief walk to stumble across it.

Oh, the walk was hot too.  Here's my cap after upon arrival at lunch:
Worth it.
